Fish River Canyon

The Fish River Canyon, situated along the lower reaches of the Fish River (650 km, the longest river in Namibia), is one of the most impressive natural beauties in the southern part of the country.

Part of the Nature Conservation, the Fish River Canyon with a depth of up to 550 m, 161 km long, is the second largest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in America.

The enormous gorge (earth?s cavity) meanders along a distance of approx. 160 km through the fissured Koubis Massif all the way down to Ai-Ais.
During the dry season, the river bed is often completely dry or reduced to only an occasional puddle. However, after rainfalls in summer the river can become a raging torrent.

The Fish River Canyon offers spectacular and stunning photographic views, one of the most popular known as the „Hell’s Bend”.

Canyon is become favored hiking destination. However, 5 days and 86 km hikes require good physical health and should only be undertaken during the cooler winter months (May to September). Guided hikes are arranged upon request.
